Techno DJ Pool

Techno is hypnotic, repetitive and built for long sets. Most of it runs between 125 and 140 BPM: driving and peak time techno sits around 130–135, raw, deep and hypnotic techno often a bit slower, and hard techno climbs past 140. Instead of big melodies it develops through texture, percussion and tension.

Tips for mixing Techno

  • Techno rewards long transitions: layering two tracks for a minute or more is part of the style, not a mistake.
  • Control the low end. Cut the bass of one track while both kicks play so the mix keeps a single, solid kick.
  • Plan the energy of the set in blocks: hypnotic and deep at the start, peak time later, hard techno only if the room asks for it.
